Privacy Policy
Effective 14 October 2026
This policy explains how inthe.bar, which is operated from Australia, handles your personal information. We handle it in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.
What we collect
- From your sign-in provider: your account ID, name and profile photo. We don't ask for your email address.
- What you add: your profile, settings, follows, groups, sessions, rounds, drinks, guests, notes, locations and photos.
- If you choose to use alcohol estimates: your weight, height and, if you give it, your sex.
- Technical information: sign-in sessions and limited security logs. We use your IP address to limit abuse, but don't store it with your account.
How we use it
We use it to run inthe.bar, show your activity to the people your settings allow, keep the service safe and help when you contact us. We don't sell your information.
Who can see your activity
Your settings decide who sees your profile and activity. People in the same session can see each other within that session. Guests, people a host adds by name without an account, are shown to anyone who can see the host. Administrators can see restricted content when needed for safety, moderation or support.
Measurements for alcohol estimates are different: they're encrypted, used only to calculate your own estimates, and never shown to other people or to administrators. You can remove them in Settings at any time, and they're deleted with your account.
A session's location is whatever the host types in, such as a pub or suburb. We don't use GPS. Anyone who can see the session can see its location, including while it's happening.
Service providers
We share information with providers only as needed to run the service. These include hosting, sign-in, and AI services that suggest a drink from a round photo. The AI provider may keep a photo for up to 30 days to check for abuse, and doesn't use it to train its models. When you choose to share something to another app, such as Strava, we send it only what that share needs.
Cookies
We use cookies to keep you signed in and secure, and may use them to show and measure ads.
Your controls and data deletion
In Settings, you can change who can see your activity, download your data, disconnect linked apps and delete your account. Deleting your account removes or de-identifies your profile, sign-in identifiers and activity. We may keep limited records where we need them for safety, security or legal reasons.
To access or correct your information, or to make a complaint, email privacy@inthe.bar. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
Security
We protect information with access controls and encryption, but no online service is completely secure.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. When we make a significant change, we'll update the date above and let you know in the app.
